Divorce is the legal mean to dissolute or terminate a marital relationship between two people. Divorce laws are different in every state and in every country. Divorce is a very complex processes as there are many aspects that need to be taken into consideration, such as alimony and child support, spousal support, guardianship, property division, marital debt/taxes, custody/visitation.

A spouse filing for dissolution of marriage must have been a resident of the state for 6 months and a resident of the county for 3 months where the dissolution of marriage is filed. In addition, there is a waiting period of 6 months after the service of process or the appearance by the respondent before the dissolution of marriage becomes final.

Legal Grounds for Divorce in California

  • No Fault Divorce: Irreconcilable differences which have caused the permanent breakdown of the marriage.
  • General Divorce: Incurable insanity.
